On previous article on "how to properly talk to someone" I spoke about civilize language and civilize conduct, whether in physical or social network. This article is going to be simple and short for it is about what I call (two-dimensional writing). For when you are speaking to someone physically many things happened in your conversation to bring out the meaning of what you're trying to same. There will be facial expression, tone of your voice and many other things that will convert your idea in your conversation. People will figure out what you're trying to say by by many things that you do when you are communicating with them. Like sarcasm, metaphor, insinuation, being cocky, being confrontation and many other form of expression that can be used in the conversation. I'm not going to get into that for great deal of you have an idea of what I'm trying to say.
But when it come to communicating through the Internet or phone texting or even writing a letter, then you enter in a whole new dimension in communication. One thing that I'm learning is that when communicating through social network all those aspect that just mentioned above cannot be seen or reflected when writing in social network. If I write something funny or use sarcasm people make interpreted in a different or wrong way. I should know, for it has happened to me many time. People would take it in a wrong way and they would get offended or misunderstood in what I was trying to same. I know that there are classes and books that can teach me how to properly write and communicate in this two-dimensional form. But to be sincere I have no intention to write a book or become popular. But nevertheless, it is important to learn how to properly communicate with others.
So I have been thinking of how I can deal with my limitation in my writing skill while in social network. So I came up with this small and yet simple idea. The next time I find myself writing to someone in social network and I would like to express a form of sarcasm, I will simply write at the end of that particular comment or statement the word sarcasm between two square brackets [] .
As for an example:
"I can jump over the train just like a blind man can drive [sarcasm]"
Now, when I write that kind of statement people will know that I cannot really jump over a training and a blind man cannot drive the car. Even though I know that a great majority of the people are genius [sarcasm]. This may be a little bit silly for most of you, but I found myself it in some situation in which I got misunderstood in my statement. And believe it or not I myself have made the same mistake when reading other people comment or statement. I am not trying to complicate the process in which people communicate in social network, but this would help a great deal in people trying to understand what you're saying.
So once again, may my words float through the river of electric stream and find its way into your book that can even be read in the night without the guide of the moon or candle light [metaphor].
